Happy new year!

It’s 2014! Just like every year I am going to make sure this year is better than the last! Today is the first day of spring semester and I couldn’t be more excited! I am finally getting into my Telecommunication classes. That means I am finally going to be speaking on camera. I also am sideline reporting the girls basketball games for our school sports radio. It is so exciting to finally get some experience, which is also making me excited for the real world.

For Christmas I was home in the FLA and obviously had to visit Boutique nails. My mother, sister, and I all got holiday nails. We all got what Boutique nails is famous for, bio seaweed gel. Lyndsie, my sister, had the best ones I think. Just look at that snow flake! The nail tech did that by hand! IMG_0766

IMG_0764My hand is pictured left and my sisters hand is pictured right. Can you see why I was so jealous of my sisters nails?

For some reason my nails grow extremely fast and I think it’s because I am so active. The nails pictured below were my nails a week and a half later, the day after Christmas. During that time I was working out, hitting softballs with my dad, playing indoor, and beach volleyball. Those puppies held on strong!

IMG_1005

I went back to Boutique the day after Christmas and paid 35 dollars for a new set of bio seaweed gel New Years nails.

IMG_0084

If you have not noticed by now I LOVE glitter. I am currently typing with my nails the way they are pictured above. My nails have grown out a lot since I had them done, but I am going to see how long they last. With volleyball starting back up I am interested to see if they will last a month like normal.

Pre-season Confessional

Readers! I am very sorry I have not been able to post much in the last month. Volleyball season has started back up. Meaning…I have no life. I’m kidding, I do have a life just not enough time to do my nails. 😦

If you would go to the Lipscomb Volleyball Facebook page and hit like, that would be awesome! We are trying to reach 5,000 likes before our first game August 30th against University of Georgia.

If you were wondering what I have done in the past month let me give you a quick rundown.

My nails were grown out and need to be done. I was bored with the colors so I painted cats on them!

IMG_9309

I went home on July 19th to celebrate my 19th birthday, which was July 17th. 🙂 Of course, when I went home I got Bio Seaweed gel on my nails. IMG_9352

When I got back to Nashville my friend Christian wanted me to paint his nails. I thought he was joking.

IMG_9423

Let me tell you…he was not joking!

On tax free weekend I got lucky and bought a pair of Nike running shoes for twenty dollars at the Nike outlet!

IMG_9450

I was looking for cute hairstyles for work and came across this…IMG_9494

Don’t worry I didn’t go out in public!

I got a fill and chose to do my accent nail on my index finger for something different. Turns out I ended up really liking the look.IMG_9576

I can’t remember the names of both colors, but the pink polish is Essie and the sparkle is OPI.

Then, pre-sesaon activities started! Every year we go on a team retreat. This year the seniors chose to go to Deer Run. It was amazing!  We zipped lined into a lake and climbed up a 33 foot tree to jump off and ring a bell.

IMG_9571

IMG_9563

Next, we ran around downtown Nashville taking pictures of ourselves holding up LUV with our hands trying to win a scavenger hunt. Don’t let me forget to tell you the best part, my team won! GO TEAM CAMO!

IMG_9527

Then, pre-season practice finally started! If you don’t know what pre-season is, it’s a lot of volleyball practice put into two weeks. After two days we kept track of how many hours we had been in the gym. The total was 18 hours. Like I said before volleyball is my life and I love it!

IMG_9590

You could imagine that my nails probably needed to be done after all those practices. Well you were right! I sponged my nails gradient pink and orange. Then, I took a black stripe rite polish and painted a bunch of different designs on each of my nails.

IMG_9613

Let’s not forget how bad my feet need a pedicure!

IMG_9602

Finally, this past weekend I got to go out with the team! Dressing up and feeling pretty felt amazing! Do you ever have one of those days where you just feel like looking nice?

IMG_9645

Have you ever twerked?

I was doing the normal morning routine –like forcing myself to get out of bed — when my sister sent me a text with the nails she planned on getting. I loved the design she sent me and noticed that she found the picture of the nails on Instagram. The user name was @we_twerk_them_nails. My nails were not looking to hot, so I wanted to grab some ideas. That is when I saw what I wanted to do to my nails! The colors just look outstanding together. I had to give it a try.IMG_8846

To start this look off, I grabbed four colors that would look similar to the ones in the picture. I used L’Oreal Tangerine Crush, Opi’s Suzi Says Feng Shui, Pro Gel’s Electric Pink and Essie’s Mint Candy Apple. Let us not forget about the black stripe rite brush! You can use whatever colors you would like, these are just the ones I owned that would work together.

Let’s start with the base colors. On the thumb and pinky fingers paint Electric Pink. Continue onto the middle finger with Tangerine Crush. After, draw two parallel black lines using the black stripe rite brush on the index and ring fingers. You should get a little something like this. IMG_8849

Don’t worry about the black lines being perfect because, you will paint over them.

Add another coat of polish to the thumb, middle and pinky fingers.

Now, onto the ring and index fingers. For this design I would suggest doing them one at a time. Taking the black stripe rite brush draw two diagonal lines, which will makes the design look like four to five small triangles. There is an example pictured below.

IMG_8851 Next add Suzi Says Feng Shui to the top and bottom of the nail. Then, add Electric Pink and Mint Candy Apple. Like I said don’t worry about the black lines. Once that all dries, add another coat to both blues and the pink. Let all that dry.IMG_8852

Take the stripe rite brush and go back over the lines that were previously made. I would take this part very slow and steady to prevent any messy lines.

IMG_8853

Finally, I used gold and pink Caviar beads to complete the look. To add the beads I just used a dotting tool that had been dipped in a top coat polish. This helps the beads stick to the nail.

IMG_8855

So far your nails should look a something like this!

IMG_8850

Time to move on to the Electric Pink nails. Using a dotting tool place a dot of Suzi Says Feng Shui near the nail bed to complete the look for the thumb and pinky fingers.

For the middle finger use a dotting tool and alternate Suzi Says Feng Shui and Electric pick creating a cross shape. After those dry, using the same process as the ring and index fingers, take a dotting tool and place gold caviar beds which will outline the cross shape that you just made with the alternating dots. Finish with a top coat and that’s all there is to it! IMG_8857

Happy Painting! 🙂

Shine bright like a diamond.

This past week was amazing! I got to see my family, friends, a lot of baseball/softball and of course I got my nails done!

My sister sent me a picture from Pinertrest telling me to get my nails done like the picture. The lady who did my nails nailed it! 😉 I did bio seaweed gel like I always do when I go home. It never fails, I love my nails!IMG_8619

You can get this look with regular nail polish as well. Use OPIs Mod About You, which is similar to the light pink color on the thumb, index and pinky fingers. For the ring finger, use OPIs Mariah Carey Pink Yet Lavender. Finally for the middle finger apply OPIs Fab-YOU-lous. Completing the diamond shapes on the middle finger with a white stripe-rite brush.

I got to spend a lot of time with my grandma at home, which was a blessing. My grandma was recently diagnosed with cancer and living in Nashville I never see her. When I was with my grandma we went through old pictures. Looking through the old pictures was priceless. I got to see all my mom’s hairstyles. IMG_8753

My favorite is the bottom left picture, where she has pigtails and a plaid shirt on! Priceless!

I also found out why I am such a cool  kid now!

IMG_8754Look at that outfit!

It was a jam packed week, but worth every minute. I went to my father’s last high school softball banquet. This was his last season as East Lake’s head softball coach. This coming fall he will be the pitching coach for Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Fla. They are very blessed to have my father! I am being a little biased, but my dad is awesome!

IMG_8679

I also got to watch my dads travel team play. They won every game — just saying.

In the seven days that I was home I went to four baseball games and four softball games. I guess I just can’t stay away when the weather is 80 and sunny. Could you?IMG_8716

When I was not at a game, I went to the beach or the pool. Which was everyday. I live close to Clearwater beach, making it easy to sit back, relax and soak up the sun.IMG_8687

The best part about my family and the person who keeps me from going crazy, is my sister Lyndsie. IMG_8676

I think we look a lot a like. That’s just me though. My sister is the best! She acts like she will kill you if you mess with the family, but she wont kill you. She will just hit you hard. 😉

Lyndsie wants to get another puppy to keep her company. She knows that I love animals of all kinds, so she invited me to the puppy store. My mom was not happy about this. She figured I would be the one coming home with a dog and not my sister. When my sister walked into the puppy store and first saw the puppies she was worse than me! I wanted to pet all the puppies but, she actually wanted to take all of them home! Who wouldn’t though? Look at these little puppy faces!IMG_8765IMG_8763(“It’s so fluffy!!!!!!!”)

They were adorable! If you are thinking of adopting a dog or cat from a shelter please do! They all would love to be saved and have a cozy home.

Overall my trip was outstanding. It always is when I go home and see the people that I love.

Give your loved ones hugs and kisses. Live your life like it’s everyones last day.

It’s springtime and the living is easy.

Spring is finally here in beautiful Nashville, Tenn. The sun is shining and people are playing frisbee here on campus. With these last few busy weeks coming up, studying outside in the sun is all I need to keep me relaxed. Spring is definitely my favorite time of year! The weather is perfect, and it’s not too hot outside yet. SAM_0424

For this post, I wanted to put a little bit of an Easter spin to it, which is perfect for springtime! Pastel colors are always the way to go in the spring!

Start off with a base coat. For this look I used three different colors IMG_7321Essie’s Mint Candy Apple, Opi’s Did It On Em and finally, Sinful Colors Beautiful Girl.

Using Mint Candy Apple, paint two coats of polish on all your nails.IMG_7322

Next, use a dotting tool — if you don’t have a dotting tool use a pencil — to place different-sized dots on the nail.

Using Opi’s Did It On Em place dots on the nail starting with bigger dots at the tip of the nail as well as placing more dots at the tip of the nail. Work your way down the nail using smaller dots as well as less dots as you get near the bottom of the nail.

IMG_7325Then repeat using Sinful Colors Beautiful girl. Again start at the top of the nail with big pink dots, then work your way down the nail with little pink dots.

Finish with a top coat and that’s it!

This is a very simple and fun nail design. Plus, there are so many color combinations it’s unreal!

Happy painting! 🙂

A different way to do gradient.

It’s getting closer to spring break and I can’t wait to go home to sunny Florida! The beach and a tan is all I need!IMG_6794

I figured that I would do a post that related to the blue water at Clearwater beach. So I did a reciprocal gradient nail art design, using OPI’s Suzi Says Feng Shui, China Glaze For Audrey and Sinful Colors Snow Me White.

To start, I painted two coats to all of my nails using For Audrey. Then I placed tape around my nails to minimize the clean up process.

Using a make-up sponge, I painted on Snow Me White first and blended in For Audrey next. After that I blended Suzi Says Feng Shui to help get the gradient look. Your sponge should look like the picture below.

IMG_6814

Then I lightly dabbed my nail bed with the make-up sponge, applying two coats.

IMG_6813

You can see in the picture above how the tape helps with clean up.

For the next step wait about ten minutes for the polish to completely dry. Then place three small pieces of tape on all your nails.

IMG_6815

Then repeat the gradient step painting the polishes on the make-up sponge again, but instead of having the white part of the sponge facing the tip of the nail, have it facing the cuticle. This will give the reciprocal gradient look.

I find that the lines come out clearer and look better when you take the tape off of after applying two coats of polish with the make-up sponge.

IMG_6818

This is what you should get for your final product. My pinky nail displays the original gradient look.

Thanks for reading and have fun but safe spring break!

Happy painting! 🙂

A style that sticks.

photo-6This past week my mother sent me a care package containing a set of Sephora’s Nail Patch Art stickers. I figured I would give them a try. This was my first time using these stickers. They are really easy to apply and not to mention really pretty!

Before removing the backing from the sticker, fit the sticker to your nail bed. Then separate the sticker from the row. Next, start at the top and peel back the white paper backing, holding the gray part located at the top.photo-8

Place the sticker onto the nail bed. I found it helpful to start at a corner in the bottom half of the nail and slowly smooth the sticker out over the rest of the nail. If you do mess up on this step, it is simple to peel the sticker off and fix the placement.

After placing the sticker on the nail peel off the clear plastic seal on top of the nail sticker.

You will notice that there is a lot of access product. This is fine, using your finger nail on the opposite hand or a cuticle pusher to push the remaining product underneath the nail. At this point you will notice the extra sticker will start to slowly break. Gently tear off the extra.

photo-6You can also cut off the extra sticker before peeling off the seal so you can use the extra for a french tip design on a later manicure.

To finish this simple look, file down your nails, and that’s all there is to it!

These stickers are easy and take about five to 10 minutes to apply. The stickers will last a long time. I left mine on for a week, and they were so difficult to take off, which could be a good or bad thing. I remind you that I play Division 1 volleyball. We are in our off season where we have practice and weights every day. Let’s just say I use my hands a lot! The fact that these nail stickers stayed on for that long is impressive!

These stickers are a good buy and extremely cute!

Can we go to the thrift shop?

Welcome to March, everyone!

As a Florida girl I am not use to it snowing two days in a row in March. This time of the year in Florida the weather is in the 70s and all my friends are at the beach!

Being a broke college kid and not knowing what to do on these cold days, I decided to go to the thrift store with some of my friends to find some cute vintage clothes.

Little did I know, I was coming out of the thrift shop with an idea for a nail design.

The vintage look below has to be one of my favorite nail designs so far! It’s super easy and beyond adorable!
IMG_6607

To get this look, I painted every other nail using Revlon’s Minted. The nails that were not painted Minted I used Sephora’s Give Peach a Chance by OPI.

After I let my nails dry, I grabbed a mechanical pencil because I couldn’t find my dotting tool–depressing I know. I took the mechanical pencil and dipped it in Give Peach a Chance. Then I gently dabbed the polish on the nail in a circular motion to create the bud of the flower. Do this multiple times all over the nail. This step is shown in the picture below.

IMG_6602

Next use a stripe right green polish to create the leaves of the flowers.

IMG_6603

Then, I added little white lines in the bud of the flower using a white stripe right brush. Be sure to make a small C shape in the middle of the flower bud, then separate little lines around the C shape.

IMG_6604

The last step adds detail to the flower bud, making it look more realistic. You can also add white lines to the leaves. If you wish to do so I would recommend mixing some of the green polish with white polish to get a light green color. This will make the leaves look more natural.

On the Give Peach a Chance colored nails I used the white stripe right tool to add three vertical lines on each nail. You can also use a dotting tool to add dots all over the nail instead of lines, creating a different vintage look.

IMG_6605

To finish this look add a top coat. You may also clean up the nails by taking a cotton swab dipped in nail polish remover and take off the extra polish around the nail.

IMG_6633

That’s all there is for this simple and sweet nail design. Give it a try!

Happy painting! 🙂

A nail design that gives braiding a twist.

The other day I was looking up nail designs that I could try.  My nails needed some help because they were looking –what we call– “rachet.”

photo-7

I watched a youtube video called Braided Nail Art and thought it was a brilliant design! Of course I had to try it.

You can definitely say my nail design didn’t turn out as good as the nails in the video did, but I still love the way mine turned out.

The colors I used were Yodel Me On My Cell by OPI, Spark De Triomphe also by OPI and Tangerine Crush by L’Oreal Paris.

I used the same color scheme that I used for my tribal nails in my last post Let’s talk about tribal. For some reason I subconsciously love to use pink, blue and sparkles together.

photo-6Anyways to get the look pictured left, I started with a base coat. Then I painted my entire nail with two coats of Spark De Triomphe.

The video explains that it is best to make a line while rolling over your finger. During this step it is really important to take your time and not rush the strokes.

Start with Tangerine Crush then cross over with Yodel Me on My Cell and finally cross over with Spark De Triomphe. Repeat this process until you reach the tip of the nail. Finish with a top coat.

Side note: The main reason I started with Tangerine Crush is that I found it easier to go over Yodel Me on My Cell. Plus it uses less paint. If you are a nail freak like me you know how we feel about wasting paint–and cotton balls.IMG_6572

The video tutorial makes this design look super easy to do, but to be honest I struggled. It was my first time doing this look and I didn’t take my time. Be sure to be patient and take your time while painting. Also let the polish dry after doing a color, so the polish doesn’t get really thick and look caked on.

Hopefully if you try this design it turns out better than mine. Happy painting! 🙂

What’s your favorite nail design to do?
