Have you ever twerked?

I was doing the normal morning routine –like forcing myself to get out of bed — when my sister sent me a text with the nails she planned on getting. I loved the design she sent me and noticed that she found the picture of the nails on Instagram. The user name was @we_twerk_them_nails. My nails were not looking to hot, so I wanted to grab some ideas. That is when I saw what I wanted to do to my nails! The colors just look outstanding together. I had to give it a try.IMG_8846

To start this look off, I grabbed four colors that would look similar to the ones in the picture. I used L’Oreal Tangerine Crush, Opi’s Suzi Says Feng Shui, Pro Gel’s Electric Pink and Essie’s Mint Candy Apple. Let us not forget about the black stripe rite brush! You can use whatever colors you would like, these are just the ones I owned that would work together.

Let’s start with the base colors. On the thumb and pinky fingers paint Electric Pink. Continue onto the middle finger with Tangerine Crush. After, draw two parallel black lines using the black stripe rite brush on the index and ring fingers. You should get a little something like this. IMG_8849

Don’t worry about the black lines being perfect because, you will paint over them.

Add another coat of polish to the thumb, middle and pinky fingers.

Now, onto the ring and index fingers. For this design I would suggest doing them one at a time. Taking the black stripe rite brush draw two diagonal lines, which will makes the design look like four to five small triangles. There is an example pictured below.

IMG_8851 Next add Suzi Says Feng Shui to the top and bottom of the nail. Then, add Electric Pink and Mint Candy Apple. Like I said don’t worry about the black lines. Once that all dries, add another coat to both blues and the pink. Let all that dry.IMG_8852

Take the stripe rite brush and go back over the lines that were previously made. I would take this part very slow and steady to prevent any messy lines.

IMG_8853

Finally, I used gold and pink Caviar beads to complete the look. To add the beads I just used a dotting tool that had been dipped in a top coat polish. This helps the beads stick to the nail.

IMG_8855

So far your nails should look a something like this!

IMG_8850

Time to move on to the Electric Pink nails. Using a dotting tool place a dot of Suzi Says Feng Shui near the nail bed to complete the look for the thumb and pinky fingers.

For the middle finger use a dotting tool and alternate Suzi Says Feng Shui and Electric pick creating a cross shape. After those dry, using the same process as the ring and index fingers, take a dotting tool and place gold caviar beds which will outline the cross shape that you just made with the alternating dots. Finish with a top coat and that’s all there is to it! IMG_8857

Happy Painting! 🙂

Shine bright like a diamond.

This past week was amazing! I got to see my family, friends, a lot of baseball/softball and of course I got my nails done!

My sister sent me a picture from Pinertrest telling me to get my nails done like the picture. The lady who did my nails nailed it! 😉 I did bio seaweed gel like I always do when I go home. It never fails, I love my nails!IMG_8619

You can get this look with regular nail polish as well. Use OPIs Mod About You, which is similar to the light pink color on the thumb, index and pinky fingers. For the ring finger, use OPIs Mariah Carey Pink Yet Lavender. Finally for the middle finger apply OPIs Fab-YOU-lous. Completing the diamond shapes on the middle finger with a white stripe-rite brush.

I got to spend a lot of time with my grandma at home, which was a blessing. My grandma was recently diagnosed with cancer and living in Nashville I never see her. When I was with my grandma we went through old pictures. Looking through the old pictures was priceless. I got to see all my mom’s hairstyles. IMG_8753

My favorite is the bottom left picture, where she has pigtails and a plaid shirt on! Priceless!

I also found out why I am such a cool  kid now!

IMG_8754Look at that outfit!

It was a jam packed week, but worth every minute. I went to my father’s last high school softball banquet. This was his last season as East Lake’s head softball coach. This coming fall he will be the pitching coach for Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Fla. They are very blessed to have my father! I am being a little biased, but my dad is awesome!

IMG_8679

I also got to watch my dads travel team play. They won every game — just saying.

In the seven days that I was home I went to four baseball games and four softball games. I guess I just can’t stay away when the weather is 80 and sunny. Could you?IMG_8716

When I was not at a game, I went to the beach or the pool. Which was everyday. I live close to Clearwater beach, making it easy to sit back, relax and soak up the sun.IMG_8687

The best part about my family and the person who keeps me from going crazy, is my sister Lyndsie. IMG_8676

I think we look a lot a like. That’s just me though. My sister is the best! She acts like she will kill you if you mess with the family, but she wont kill you. She will just hit you hard. 😉

Lyndsie wants to get another puppy to keep her company. She knows that I love animals of all kinds, so she invited me to the puppy store. My mom was not happy about this. She figured I would be the one coming home with a dog and not my sister. When my sister walked into the puppy store and first saw the puppies she was worse than me! I wanted to pet all the puppies but, she actually wanted to take all of them home! Who wouldn’t though? Look at these little puppy faces!IMG_8765IMG_8763(“It’s so fluffy!!!!!!!”)

They were adorable! If you are thinking of adopting a dog or cat from a shelter please do! They all would love to be saved and have a cozy home.

Overall my trip was outstanding. It always is when I go home and see the people that I love.

Give your loved ones hugs and kisses. Live your life like it’s everyones last day.

Chevron nails and more!

This post is a little bit of everything. I don’t only love nails, but I love fashion, make-up and hair too!

This season, one go to look is a beautiful maxi skirt with a nice tank top. I got the maxi skirt pictured below from Pac-Sun. IMG_7646

The black tank top is from Forever 21. This top is see through in the back, so I wore a lace bandeau underneath. I really think this helped bring the look all together.IMG_7657

Yes, I do have a llama phone case! His name is LeBeau. 🙂

For my shoes, I always love to wear gladiator shoes with a cute skirt or shorts. You can never go wrong with them!

IMG_7073

For my hair I curled it using a flat iron. Using the flat iron is my most favorite way to curl my hair! It last for longer than two days, and adds so much volume to my hair.

IMG_7667

Now onto the best part, nails! I did my friend Alex’s nails the other day and she wanted the chevron look!

IMG_7639

I loved the look so much that I wanted to do it myself!

IMG_7686

Here’s what I did! I liked the sparkles on my ring finger and didn’t want to pant over it, so I just painted my middle finger. I free handed this look with a stripe right brush.

IMG_7684

And yes that is a llama wallet. It’s another obsession of mine.

Another way to make perfect chevron stripes, is to use a pair of zig zag scissors. First paint the nail all white and let the nail dry. Then, cut tape strips using the zig zag scissors to get the chevron shape. Paint over the tape with a different polish color. Before the polish dries take off the tape using tweezers, to get perfect chevron stripes. You can also purchase pre-cut chevron decals on Etsy.com. Anyway you paint them, you can never go wrong with the chevron look, it is very much in style.

Happy Painting! 🙂

Batter up! Baseball season is back!

Growing up I was always a big baseball fan. My father would take my sister and me to almost every Devil Rays game when we were younger. The picture bottom right is of (in order) my dad, me and my sister. Weren’t we cute?IMG_2878

Even though the Devil Rays are now the Rays, I am still a major fan! This past year I got to meet Ben Zobrist, who is one of the Rays’ top players. IMG_6135

Ben recently spoke at Lipscomb University, where I got to meet him. I was a little celeb shocked when I met him, but I managed to get a picture.IMG_6256

I may have been a little sweaty shaking his hand. I mean it’s not every day you get to meet your hometown baseball team star!

This year I was also was blessed to meet R.A. Dickey when he came to speak at chapel. Dickey is a NL Cy Young award winner who recently signed with the Blue Jays IMG_4698organization.

I was pretty excited to meet him as well! Yes, that is RA Dickey in our locker room.

I got to talk with RA about his move to the Blue Jays organization. Growing up only 15 minutes away from where the Blue Jays’ spring training games were held, I would always watch them play. The picture below is from spring training 2012 vs. the Braves.photo-6

Don’t worry, I didn’t forget that this is still a nail blog! What can I say? I get a little excited about baseball season.

Now that spring training is finally over and baseball season is back in business, I wanted to do a nail design that would be a definite home run!

Thankfully I have a wonderful mother who knows I am obsessed with nails and baseball so she sent me the idea. Yes she actually drew it out for me.IMG_6041

To get this baseball look start out with a base coat, like always then, take reinforcement labels which you can find at any store that sells office supplies. The colorful ones are optional. 🙂

IMG_7210

Taking a reinforcement label, place it just blow the white part of your nail tip. This will help you get a french tip look.IMG_7211

Paint the tip of your nail white. For this look I used two coats of Sinful Colors’ Snow Me White.

IMG_7212Your nail should look like the picture above. Let dry for around five seconds, then pull off the reinforcement label carefully. IMG_7213

Next, I used a red stripe rite brush to make a line right under the french tip. IMG_7214Still using the red stripe rite brush, I placed diagonal dashes along the red under the french tip to get the look of baseball seams.IMG_7216

There is always a chance of polish getting on your skin. If you wish to remove the polish around the nail so you can take fabulous pictures of your nails before messing them up because your nails are not dry and you have to go to the bathroom, just take a cotton swab dipped in nail polish remover and remove the polish around the skin.IMG_7217

Finish with a top coat!

IMG_7218

IMG_7221

Hope you enjoyed this post! If you are baseball fan, may your team have a good season and lose to the Rays! GO RAYS!

Can we go to the thrift shop?

Welcome to March, everyone!

As a Florida girl I am not use to it snowing two days in a row in March. This time of the year in Florida the weather is in the 70s and all my friends are at the beach!

Being a broke college kid and not knowing what to do on these cold days, I decided to go to the thrift store with some of my friends to find some cute vintage clothes.

Little did I know, I was coming out of the thrift shop with an idea for a nail design.

The vintage look below has to be one of my favorite nail designs so far! It’s super easy and beyond adorable!
IMG_6607

To get this look, I painted every other nail using Revlon’s Minted. The nails that were not painted Minted I used Sephora’s Give Peach a Chance by OPI.

After I let my nails dry, I grabbed a mechanical pencil because I couldn’t find my dotting tool–depressing I know. I took the mechanical pencil and dipped it in Give Peach a Chance. Then I gently dabbed the polish on the nail in a circular motion to create the bud of the flower. Do this multiple times all over the nail. This step is shown in the picture below.

IMG_6602

Next use a stripe right green polish to create the leaves of the flowers.

IMG_6603

Then, I added little white lines in the bud of the flower using a white stripe right brush. Be sure to make a small C shape in the middle of the flower bud, then separate little lines around the C shape.

IMG_6604

The last step adds detail to the flower bud, making it look more realistic. You can also add white lines to the leaves. If you wish to do so I would recommend mixing some of the green polish with white polish to get a light green color. This will make the leaves look more natural.

On the Give Peach a Chance colored nails I used the white stripe right tool to add three vertical lines on each nail. You can also use a dotting tool to add dots all over the nail instead of lines, creating a different vintage look.

IMG_6605

To finish this look add a top coat. You may also clean up the nails by taking a cotton swab dipped in nail polish remover and take off the extra polish around the nail.

IMG_6633

That’s all there is for this simple and sweet nail design. Give it a try!

Happy painting! 🙂

Let’s talk about tribal.

IMG_1398Last summer the look that took over almost every teenage girl nails was tribal. This trend was all everyone was talking about -at least at my school. For people who didn’t know what polishes or tools to use to get this look, it wasn’t easy. In all actuality getting that tribal look you always wanted is not as difficult as it seems. If you have the right tools and patience you can complete a successful tribal look.

All you need to complete a great tribal look is one of the following: a Sally Hansen nail art pen, a stripe rite nail polish or if you feel like you can handle it, a regular striping brush that you dip into nail polish. All of these tools can be found at a local Sally beauty store or online at sallybeauty.com.

To complete the look pictured left, I painted two coats of  Minted by Revlon, then I used the white Stripe Rite nail polish to section off the nails. After that I painted some sections Radiant by Revlon, some sections Tangerine Crush by L’Oreal Paris and some sectioins Charming by Revlon. I also made sure to not paint over the minted color.

After applying the polish in the sections I wanted them, I went back over the white lines with the Stripe Rite polish.

When the polish dries you can add little details like the line in the Tangerine Crush on the index finger and the lines on the Minted color on the thumb and ring finger. This tribal look has a lot of lighter polish, so it’s always a good idea to add black in the design for contrast. In this case I added black to the middle finger helping to highlight the Radiant color.

Below I posted another example of this color combo, but this design still has a completely different look.IMG_1253

IMG_1250
IMG_5976

There are also different styles of tribal. You don’t always have to use a lot of colors. Like the picture right, you can use two or three colors which still makes a statement. On these nails I used a dotting tool for the white dots and a striping brush for the gold lines.

The biggest thing to be successful while doing a tribal design, as well as painting nails in general, is to have a steady hand and work patient and slow.

IMG_1161There are so many different ways to do tribal, so really try to be creative. Unless you missed the kindergarten lesson on drawing straight lines, you cannot mess up this simple design. You can never go wrong with this design (unless you have no idea how to draw a straight line). Try different colors, different shapes and remember to tell yourself that practice makes perfect! The nails pictured left were the first tribal nails I ever did. They have come a long way since then, thank goodness. So try this look out and practice on a friend.

Happy painting 🙂
